There are reportedly background drama between the Nigerian Male team senior coach, Jose Peseiro and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over new contract for the Portuguese tactician.
Terms and Conditions NFF Gives Peseiro
The NFF was reported to have told Jose Peseiro he has a three-day ultimatum to accept pay cut or quit the Super Eagles job which the gaffer had rejected.
Report on Peseiro From The NFF Technical Committee
The Chairman of the NFF Technical Committee, Sheriff Rabiu Inuwa was quoted saying:
“The Technical Committee has given him [Peseiro] three days to respond to our proposed pay cut or we disengage him finally. We will allow him to continue if he accepts a reduction in his 70,000 USD monthly salary and other conditions of service.
“If he turns down our proposal, we will consider appointing a coach to oversee the dead rubber game against Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo, then we start to search for a new substantive coach that the NFF can afford to pay his salary.”
NFF Terms and Conditions Which Peseiro Kicks Against
It has been gathered that aside the earnings reductions offered to the coach, the Football Federation had also limited him from calling some players into the squad which Peseiro frowns on.
Players such as Gift Orban and Victor Boniface were highly noted to be his choice for them to challenge the current members considering how well they’ve been performing from the last season which the Federation is said to have used as a clause for him and he disapprove.
Why José Peseiro Rejects NFF Ultimatum!
Peseiro would rather want to achieve his target of qualifying for the next World Cup and at least a final appearance at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) by being in charge of the team selection.
According to sources from the FA, they would rather give exposure to players from the local league and also save funds considering how the foreign exchange rates has been lately in the country.
On his part, the Portuguese coach has called up a team of 23 foreign players for the next game against Sao Tome and Principe saying that he only has that chance of utilising his players before the World Cup qualifiers will start in November.
To avert possible gaps, two names are noted as replacements for Peseiro should he fail to agree with the Federation and the names are Augustine Eguavoen and Salisu Yusuf.
How Much Does Peseiro Earn As Super Eagles Coach?
He currently pockets a monthly salary of $70,000 and his current contract expired in July 2023 which has not been renewed yet.
To his credits, in the nine games played, he four wins and five defeats and has managed to qualify Nigeria for the African Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast next year.
