Senator Godswill Akpabio has emerged as the 10th Senate President of Nigeria in a keenly contested election after a seemingly chaotic opening at the Inauguration of the 10th Assembly of Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The inauguration also witnessed Senator Barau Jibrin emerging as the Deputy Senate President.
Jibrin was nominated by Senator David Umahi and seconded by Senator Salihu Mustapha.

born 9 December 1962.
He is a lawyer and politician who served as minister for Niger Delta Affairs from 2019 to 2022.
Akpabio had previously served as Governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2007 to 2015 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
