Nigeria’s female basketball national team, D-Tigress, has defeated Senegal 84-74 to win 2023 FIBA AfroBasket.
The team is also led by Rena Wakama, who went into the 2023 Afrobasket Women tournament as the only female head coach.

Following this victorious outing of Rena, she takes her place in history as the 1st female coach to have accomplished this feat in the history of the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.
The win also mean that D’Tigress makes history by winning 4 Afrobasket championship in a row. The team first won in 2017 the 2019, 2021 and now 2023 and have never lost an Afrobasket final.
The African Champions have also not lost a game since 2015.
The championship in Kigali, Rwanda also had Ames Okonkwo as the tournament’s MVP, after her stellar displays throughout the championship.
Okonkwo came clutch for D’Tigress, playing a crucial role to help the team win their 6th AfroBasketWomen title.
