How Bawa and Emefiele Collaborated on the Naira Redesign Policy

NewStori was made to be aware through a publication by Sahara Reporters that Bawa was named by Emefiele as an accomplice in the Naira redesign scam.
It was discovered that Emefiele who is being detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) was the reason why the embattled EFCC chairman was also invited and detained.
Why Abdulrasheed Bawa Was Detained by DSS
The DSS had invited Bawa to its headquarters at about 9:02 pm on Wednesday after his suspension was approved by President Tinubu.
According to saharareporters.com Emefiele and Bawa are both undergoing interrogation and this is related to sundry issues including the Naira redesign scam.
The Naira Redesign Policy Controversies
Recall that on November 23, 2022, former President Muhammadu Buhari alongside Emefiele unveiled new naira notes in denominations of ₦200, ₦500 and ₦1,000.
Furthermore, Emefiele insisted that the old notes would cease to be legal tender from January 31, 2023 in what the court overruled but he was adamant about.
Accusations by Emefiele and Counter Accusations from Bawa
According a top source who spoke to Sahara Reporters,
“Emefiele who is currently cooling his feet in the cell of the DSS is the reason why the EFCC chairman has been detained overnight.
Emefiele who is cooperating with the DSS claimed that Bawa was the one who raised a memo to former President Muhammadu Buhari, asking that the Naira should be redesigned to stem money laundering during the 2023 election,”
“Bawa confronted him that he (Emefiele) and the former Attorney-General of the Federation, Malami were the ones that came to him to raise the memo because they suspected Tinubu had warehouses stuffed with naira notes,
How Emefiele Escaped from the DSS in February 2023
In February 2023, the DSS attempted to arrest Emefiele, but the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, shielded him by providing soldiers to guard his residence and office.
The DSS had said it intensified its investigations in order to arrest and prosecute Emefiele, on allegations of terrorism financing and fraud.
He was also fingered for funding “unknown gunmen” terrorising the Southeast region of the country in a court document obtained by the DSS.
DSS investigation revealed that the apex bank governor funded the groups with resources he raised for his failed presidential bid in 2022 and diverted public funds.
