When Did The Lagos State House of Assembly Had it First Plenary Session?

The session on Tuesday, July 11th, is also the first since they hsheld its first Plenary since its inauguration with a call on the National Assembly to commence action that would lead to the establishment of State Police.

Why The Lagos State Assembly Seeks to Establish State Police

Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa is the speaker for the house. He led the renewed call for the establishment of State police saying the approval would assist in stemming the spate of insecurity in the country.

While adding his quota on the floor of the House, the newly inaugurated member, Bonu, added his voice and called on relevant authorities to checkmate the presence and excesses of different security personnel especially operatives mounting road block on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway right from Agbara to Seme Border.

Bonu stated that the uncoordinated operations of these law enforcement officers usually discourage some tourists from visiting the State, this according to him, will affect the economic activities of not only Badagry but the State as a whole.

He implored the Leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to put measures in place to regain public confidence in the ability of the Police to ensure adequate security of all citizens without trampling on the fundamental human rights of Nigerians as enshrined in the Constitution.

Recalling some of the latest happening in and around Lagos in terms of Security, the House noted that there is a need to call on the 10th National Assembly to see it as a matter of urgency to make the issue of State Policing a major factor of development.
