Oluwaseun Ogunsakin has made history to become the first homegrown Nigerian talent to earn a wildcard into the Junior event at the Wimbledon.
The 14-year-old was awarded a spot after he emerged as the African U14 champion at the ITF/CAT junior championships held in Lome, Togo.
Oluwaseun emerged as the African U-14 boys’ singles Champion after dominating the field at the @ITFTennis and CAT African Junior Championship held in Lome.
At the event, he defeated Ahmed Darmoul of Tunisia 6-2,6-4 in the final. Both players had played days earlier and he was victorious in the warm-up tournament as well.
Oluwaseun has been on the rise since 2018 with his father and coach, Wumi Ogunsakin mentoring him. His father is the Ekiti State tennis coach.
He is currently on scholarships at the ITF tennis camp in Tunisia also bagged an ITF Tennis scholarship which would take him on an European tour – France, the orange bowl in the US before he makes his grand slam debut at Wimbledon.
